What you need to know about Ibiza

Hey guys,

For all the Virgin travellers out there, I’ve put together a list of hotels and some information that may assist you in planning your trip to ibiza.

Ive been going now for years and I realise how overwhelming the options may be. I hope this is of some help to those travelling. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. Im setting out to go around June and again excited as I was the first time!

Playa den Bossa

I will concentrate on Playa den Bossa as the ideal location for your accommodation. It has the longest beach on the island and is in very close proximity to Space nightclub as well as Bora Bora Beach. There are many local restaurants here with reasonable prices as well as mini marts for your grocery and alcohol needs. In my experience I found this location to be central to most activities and is away from the british geezers that tend to ruin other parts of the island.

If you want to keep the cost of taxi’s down as much as possible, it is the preferred location. Here is a map showing you where all the clubs are in relation to staying at Playa den Bossa.

1.KUMHARAS
2.SUNSET STRIP
3.EDEN, ES PARADIS
4.KM5
5.DC-10
6.SPACE, BORA BORA
7.UNDERGROUND
8.AMNESIA
9.PRIVILEGE
10.PACHA, EL DIVINO
11.BAMBUDDHA GROVE
12.GUARANA
13.BLUE MARLIN

Accommodation

Accommodation in Playa d’en Bossa is nearly all self-catering. There are many bars, cafes, eateries and supermarkets in the resort, most at very reasonable prices.

Playa d’en Bossa is very popular in the clubbing season (mid-June till end of September) with clubbers and youngsters of all nationalities. The famous Jet Apartments, right on the beach next to Bora Bora is one of the most exciting places to stay for fun and excitement.

The nearby 4 Star Hotel Garbi has a Spa, is right on the beach and is also very popular.

I can personally vouch for the services provided by both of these as I always stay at these two places, with Garbi definitely being my favourite.

If the pricing is still a concern, there is a plethora of others to choose. Here is a link to all the good hotels in Playa Den Bossa.

If you have a larger groups of friends going, here is a link to all the decent apartments in Playa den Bossa.

WARNING - Don’t leave your accommodation and bookings until the last minute! The prices do go up as the weeks go by – we learnt that the hard way the second year lol. Here is a link to study and find your own appropriate accommodation in Ibiza

Another note – As I said I will vouch for Jet Apartments and Garbi. Before you commit to any of the other resorts, its a good idea to check out the reviews given by other hotel patrons on the links i have posted above.

Clubbing and Ibiza

So you’ve saved your pennies, booked the flights, bought some amazing outfits; you even have another week’s holiday at home after you come back, to recuperate. Everything is perfect.

But are you REALLY prepared for this clubbing experience of a lifetime? Read this page, it won’t take long, and it will save you time, money and help you avoid hassle too.

Here are the main clubs in ibiza:
Amnesia – located in the middle of the island, near San Rafael
DC10 – located near the airport on the road to Las Salinas.
Eden – located on the waterfront in San Antonio.
Es Paradis – located on the waterfront in San Antonio
Gala Night – located a few kilometres outside San Antonio
Pacha – located very near the Ibiza Marina
Privilege – located in the middle of the island, near San Rafael
Space – located in Playa d’en Bossa, near the beach.

In addition there are many smaller venues such as Bora Bora, Underground, Boho, Extasis, Bora Bora, KM5 and more.

Dress codes:
Within reason, the clubs will not refuse patrons with tickets. The hip, less hip and the sloppy are allowed to mingle without fear of contamination between stratas of sophistication. It’s hard to attract attention with an outfit. Feel free to try.

It is possible for hot, well dressed girls and boys to gain entry without paying. Act like you own the place. Tag on to people holding record bags. That cat in the big tall hat can get you in too.

None of the VIP lounges allow entry with shorts – so if you are hobnobbing it with the Jet-Set, dress up!

PRICING
Wait for it…..are you sitting comfortably…..Tickets for the big famous parties (Cream, Cocoon, We Love Space etc.) range from 30 € to 60 € depending on party and disco. (Although the smaller clubs and discos in the town centres cost considerably less).

But then again, this is Ibiza, and you would pay as much at home for a concert ticket: and I can promise you, these are nights that you will never forget. Put into perspective, it doesn’t seem that expensive after all!

A Vodka Lemon will cost you up to 15 € in a club, or 10 € in Ibiza Town or one of the pre-club bars. A beer (or water) will cost you up to 12 € in a club and 6-8 € elsewhere. As you can see it quickly adds up. You can check the conversion online at xe.com

DRUGS
The situation in Spain is a confused one. Although in 1992 a law has strictly regulated the use of drugs in public places (no smoking spliffs on the beach), it is not considered a crime, and therefore there can be no jail sentences. In Spain personal possession of any drug is not a criminal offence. However, The line between ‘personal’ and ‘dealing’ is a very thin one. Be sensible.
Needless to say it is not only very stupid, but also ILLEGAL TO DRINK AND DRIVE. The penalties are severe, and the accidents in summer are horrendous!

TAXI FARES
If there are 3 or 4 of you travelling, taxis are a comfortable and relatively economical way to travel. You can flag a taxi down at any time of night and day if the green light is showing. Taxis are now charged on a meter system (similar to the rest of Europe).

Fares approved by the Balearics Government for 2009.

Minimum fare on the street: 3.10 €
With booking through phone call: 4.25 €
Plus 0.93 €/km from 6 a.m. till 9 p.m.
Plus 1.14 €/km from 9 p.m. till 6 a.m., on Sundays and bank holidays.
Waiting time:
daytime 17 € / hour
nighttime 21 € / hour
Supplement airport/port: 1.55 €
Luggage free of charge

Besides clubbing, what else can I do in IBIZA?

There is a lot you can do in terms of other activities on the island if you want to take a breather from clubbing (although i cant understand why anyone would). From sighseeing, Boat charters, Diving, Watersports and more, the island does not leave much out in terms of activity. Ask your reception concierge about local offers and activities when you arrive.

I hope this has been of some help to those of you who are travelling this year. I will try and provide further information closer to the opening parties.
